It Started With a Crash

It Started With a Crash (ISWaC) is an upcoming science fiction novel written by Standy. As of July 2026, it is still in the works. ISWaC is intended to be a slice of life story since Standy does not know how to put action in his works just yet, so he sticks to fluff and slice of life.

Summary

ISWaC begins in the evening of August 14th, 2032, on Earth. An alien crashes down in the woods by Ethan's house. That startles Ethan. He wants to know what that was. And so, Ethan goes to the crashsite to see a near-perfect sphere made of unknown metal. An alien steps out, and Ethan is stunned by shock and fear. After a little, tension dissipates. Once he gains his exposure, the alien speaks English. She says her name is Ashra. Ethan realizes that the U.S. Government might find her and do unethical experiments on her. In order to prevent that from happening, he has to hide her with a disguise. After a good night's sleep, Ethan wants to show Ashra around his city, but she needs shoes. He doesn't know her size, so he hopes she got a pair in the escape pod. When Ashra looks, she not only finds a pair of shoes, but a teleporter, a trip to Tupon. After a few weeks, they decide they're ready. Once they do get to her planet, they realize the teleporter was one way. The tables have turned and Ashra now looks after Ethan. As the months go by, she pays off her kora debt, Ethan knows more about Akaria social norms, cues, etc.; and he understands more Akari.

History

Writing the book started around March 3rd, 2024. The official first draft started around January 26th, 2026. ISWaC and its world has grown, and will keep growing as time goes on. Standy currently has many projects started for his first book: worldbuilding, characterbuilding, creating a fictional Constitution for Akaria, making a conlang, and more. The book started off as a first person narrative, as if the narrator was writing a journal, essentially making him unreliable. Because of the shift to a third person narrative, the narrator is much more reliable, providing what the Akarians are actually saying.
